Digital Fabrication

During the first session of the course, we were introduced to the lab and learned about all the tools and safety protocols available to us at IAAC. It was exciting to see the range of equipment we have access to, from manual woodworking tools and CNC machines to advanced 3D printers and laser cutters. It feels empowering to know we have such a well-equipped space to bring our designs to life and experiment with different fabrication techniques.

As part of Digital Fabrication class exercise, we’re building a pixel wall together. Each of us teamed up in pairs, with every group designing a 10cm x 10cm tile to cast. My partner, Max, and I decided to create a tile with different types of rulers because we think might be functional and useful.

We started by 3D printing the tile and then made a silicone mold from it. Now, we’re exploring different materials for casting, maybe concrete, or even experimenting with biomaterials. It’s been a great way to blend creativity with hands-on making!
