  • Actors: You (designer), Contorno Urbano team, neighbors of La Florida, community garden participants.

  • Skills: Ethnographic observation, co-design facilitation, manual fabrication, reflective documentation.

  • Knowledge: Urban regeneration, ethnocognition, participatory design theory.

  • Actions:

    • Conduct mapping sessions & interviews in La Florida.

    • Co-build small-scale objects.

    • Document process (photos, reflections, sketches).

Outcome: Deep context understanding + trust network + design criteria from lived experiences.

Developing Participatory Prototypes

Goal: Expand collaborative making into collective infrastructure.

  • Actors: Local makers, families, social workers, design students.

  • Skills: Facilitation, low-tech prototyping, listening, modular design.

  • Knowledge: Social inclusion policies, material circularity, maker pedagogy.

  • Actions:

    • Use the brick-pressing machine to build functional storage.

    • Initiate co-making sessions for modular furniture and signage.

    • Launch a workshop series on cultural heritage and making.

Outcome: Functional prototypes + intergenerational exchange + enhanced visibility of local knowledge.

Community Stewardship Model

Goal: Start transitioning out of the central role; co-governance.

  • Actors: Contorno Urbano staff, trained community facilitators.

  • Skills: Delegation, co-leadership, impact evaluation, storytelling.

  • Knowledge: Co-operative structures, participatory governance.

  • Actions:

    • Establish a collective calendar for regular sessions.

    • Train local participants in co-facilitating and documenting.

    • Develop a rotating curation model for exhibitions/workshops.

Outcome: Decentralized ownership + sustainable routine + embedded value.

Amplification & Transfer (1+ year)

Goal: Spread model to other neighborhoods / cities.

  • Actors: Other nonprofits, policy makers, EU culture networks, local councils.

  • Skills: Grant writing, storytelling, strategic alliances.

  • Knowledge: EU funding channels (e.g. Erasmus+, Creative Europe), public tender systems.

  • Actions:

    • Package methodology (open toolkit, video).

    • Apply for funding with Contorno Urbano as lead partner.

    • Pilot project in another city (e.g. Barletta, Italy).

Outcome: Adaptable framework + replicable toolkit + financial sustainability through alliances.
